Struisbaai always delivers

This mixing point of currents produces a very diverse species list providing year-round personal best and bucket list opportunities.

Struisbaai is blessed to be in a unique location being the mixing point of the colder Benguela (from the West coast) current and the warmer Agulhas (from the East coast) current.

This mixing point of currents produces a very diverse species list providing year-round personal best and bucket list opportunities. The coastline provides ideal habitat for palegics and resident reef species. Yellowtail, Kob, Silvers, Streenbras, Marlin and Dorado are all on the list of target species depending on the time of year and presence of the warmer Agulhas or colder Benguela currents. Whether deep-sea or rock and surf fishing there is always an opportunity to wet a line.

Struisbaai has an active artisanal fishing port with “chukkies” being used to fish the “vlakbank” and other nearby hotspots. The recreational and commercial fisherman have a good relationship full of local banter at the harbor and offshore.

Struisbaai hosts annual marlin, yellowtail and rock and surf competitions just to mention a few. When going out to sea you are almost always guaranteed of seeing a great deal of sea life, dolphin, whale, seal, jellyfish, turtles, rays and many more.
