Nosy Be, Madagascar!  Still teaming with fish and other sea life.

Maki Cat Charter

Nosy Be, Madagascar! Still teaming with fish and other sea life. Fishing in the North West of Madagascar offers great rewards of sailfish, Giant Trevelly (aka Kingfish), Yellowfin Tuna, Dog Tooth Tuna, marlin, wahoo, dorado, King Mackerel (Kuta), bonito and barracuda.

Craig Thomassen had this to say: “Fishing in Nosy Be is always an exciting experience. The variety of fish species is incredible and there always seem to be quality game fish around. The waters in the area can produce anything from sailfish to GT’s; and everything in between.”

“Aside from the fishing, the scenery is spectacular,” says Craig, “With massive granite islands rising out of the sea, making the entire experience of boating there like something out of a dream.”  We are also agents for a fishing lodge in the Mitsio for those preferring to be land based!

MadagasCaT have been operating liveaboard charters in the region since 2008 and hope to welcome Catch & Cook clients to these, mostly uncharted waters.

Unique in so many aspects a liveaboard fishing trip offers both luxury and comfort – and the bonus? Your fresh fish cooked for you onboard on the same day! Popping, fly, casting, trawling and bottom fishing are all possible from our boats with knowledgeable and experienced crew to ensure you are at the right place at the right time! Whilst fishing from both boats is rewarding the more serious fishermen include the services of a sports fisher to accompany them on charter.  With this they can test their skills at Castor Bank, Grande Banque, Voletiqeue and Leven Banks, Geyser Reef, Four Brothers, Cap St Sebastian, Gregs Wall, Nosy Lava and Kalakajora drop offs.

A perfect family getaway too!  Snorkelling, kayaking, fishing, beaches and superb food are all part of a standard charter. We feel confident that no other company knows Madagascar better than they do! They have a diverse line-up of lodges, outfitters and guides, and they can line up the best guides, pick the right dates, and create the perfect itineraries and trip packages to match exactly what you’re looking for. For more information on all our Madagascar services please visit or call 084 524 9706.

An average charter for six people on Maki Cat would come in at around R29 000 per person sharing and includes estimated return airfares from JNB, airport taxes, return airport transfers, six nights on charter with all meals, activities and excursions, one night (last one) in a hotel with dinner and breakfast; this does not include the extra fuel for fishing or a sports fisher.

For dedicated fishing charters an additional €70 per day is charged for extra fuel or, to charter a sportfisher you should add between €650 and €800 per day. €100 extra if the boats visit Castor Banks. All charters are for a minimum of six nights. Subject to availability of airfares and ROE. We are also agents for a fishing lodge in the Mitsio for those preferring to be land based!
